The ‘Superflat’ motif and movement was originally conceived of by Takashi Murakami in 2001, generally categorized as a form of Japanese Pop Art. The Superflat concept is a blurring of fine art and commercial art, allowing modern popular culture to be the source of inspiration for Neo-Pop Art. This is most perfectly exemplified by Takashi Murakami’s collaboration with Louis Vuitton which inspired this and many other Superflat compositions.
