Rufino Tamayo Manos Sobre Fondo Azul (Hands on Blue Background) Pereda 260 is a beautiful example of Rufino Tamayo prints on Guarro paper. From the series 15 Aguafuertes 1979, this striking original etching by Rufino Tamayo exemplifies the Mexican artist’s use of bold and vibrant colors. Deeply influenced by pre-Columbian and Paleolithic art, the “hand” etchings by Rufino Tamayo are a clear homage to prehistoric cave paintings. The textured guarro paper allowed Tamayo to replicate stone, and the imprints of an open hand are reminiscent of famous Paleolithic cave sights like Cuevos de las Manos in Argentina.
