Figura en Jarras by Rufino Tamayo is a typical example of Rufino Tamayo’s paintings and prints of figures. Tamayo’s figures are often depicted as minimalist geometric forms. The Guarro paper used in this print is a special hand-made paper that has been embossed to create a porous texture intended to emulate stone. Additionally, the earthy palette is another method used to replicate the look of a stone relief. Rufino Tamayo’s art is deeply influenced by pre-Columbian sculptures and he was constantly looking for new printing techniques that allowed him to create unique textures in his art.
