Mr Brainwash Anonymous Oscar Invitation for the James Franco Academy Awards after party 2011. Original hand-signed silkscreen on paper. One of the original invitations given to guests of James Franco’s Oscar Party. Signed and numbered front with the MBW thumbprint on verso.

Mr Brainwash Anonymous was created and distributed as an invitation to James Franco’s Oscar Party after the 2011 Academy Awards. The hand-pulled silkscreen is an image of an anonymous Banksy figure as an oscar. On the back of the piece is the invitation to the James Franco after party. The piece is signed, numbered, and has Mr. Brainwash’s thumbprint on verso. Provenance: Private collection Los Angeles, given as a gift by original invitee to the James Franco Oscar Party.

The composition is particularly significant since the release was in conjunction with the 2011 Academy Awards in which the infamous film Exit Through the Gift Shop won an academy award launching the both artists Mr. Brainwash and Banksy into the mainstream. The critically acclaimed film is often sighted as the brilliant marketing ploy that helped both artists’ careers skyrocket into International stardom.
