Marc Chagall Les Arums (The Lilies) M. 728 lithograph from 1975, from the pencil signed and numbered edition of 50. Original colored lithograph on Arches wove paper. Reference: MOURLOT 748

Marc Chagall Les Arums (The Lillies) is a stunning large original colored lithograph from 1975. The title and subject, a bouquet of lilies, is one of Chagall’s most favorite artistic themes. Chagall’s Flower Bouquets are almost always a representation of love and lovers. In this composition the lily bouquet is symbolic of a purity of love between the couple depicted. Lilies have a traditional association with virtue, which perfectly indicates an innocence between the two lovers, who ghastly hold hands as they picnic.

The Chagall flower bouquet lithographs are always among the most sought after subjects for the artist. For a number of reasons this composition is a premium example of the artist’s work.
