Helen Frankenthaler is one of the most notable American Abstract Expressionist painters.  Helen Frankenthaler’s paintings are well known for their tranquility, often evoking elements of a landscape or horizon. Influenced by many other Color Field and Abstract artists including her husband Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler pioneered a technique called color-staining – a process of applying a thin wash of paint to an unprimed canvas.
